I will though.. just wait.

10:06pm: Been a while
I haven't been on live journal for a while now, and even at that I don't think that I'll have time today to catch up on the accounts. Just posting a little note to let you all know I'm still alive, just swamped. Take care all of you. Hopefully I'll be able to post more soon.

3rd February 2007

2:46pm: Oh where or where have I been?
Sorry for not posting in a while, but I just have finally found the time. Things have been very busy here this past month, including: Starting a new job with ScotiaBank, helping STRIGES move out reclaiming my office, running a business, updating www.fuzzwuzzle.com and all the other day to dayness that takes up so much time. My days typically are 6am straight through until about 1 or 2 am. I need those few hours to sleep. So here I am, I have a few minutes before I'm on the road again for another appointment after working on contacting a bunch of people in regards to a surprise birthday party/roast for a fellow member of the KofC who is turning 60 this month. I am MC-ing and apparently doing all the information out to people and planning of the speakers. Found that last part out recently. Originally it was a Marcel and I project (as is almost everything), but since he's not with us anymore we have to keep things going.

So again, sorry if I'm not on to post often lately, but hopefully things will start taking a more "sensible" pace sometime soon. Oh and a message for anybody out there, and I'm not specifically saying this to anyone (leatherwish) the site has a link page, anyone have an "appropriate" website and would like to post a link on Fuzzwuzzle.com, make up a banner and send it off to me. Check out the site first though and make sure that it is somewhat content related.

Cheers
Chris

10:13pm: The first day I'm actually proud of my brother.
Things have been difficult the last 10 years, my younger brother got into drugs and alcohol abuse coming out of high school and it has had a huge negative impact on his life. Without going into too much detail, when "forced" into with-drawl by being isolated so far from any source while living with my parents we discovered that he actually was a paranoid schizophrenic. This lead up to a full psychotic break about 4 years ago where he ended up on the street and we were all worried we were going to lose him entirely. Things were slipping away so quickly.

We were able to get him into the hospital where he finally began treatment for his schizophrenia. Things looked hopeful for a while afterward, but we all started to notice that the darker personality of the "user" kept showing up every once and a while.

Last night my sister and I ambushed him, and I was very worried that he was going to fight us tooth and nail. My sister had found out he was still drinking and into the drugs through a mutual acquaintance of theirs who he had borrowed money off of. So her and I sat him down and as calmly as possible told him we couldn't go through all of this again. I know for the two of us it had been a emotionally gut-wrenching day leading up to the meeting last night, worried that we were going to lose him from our lives for good. We made some progress last night, he was so surprised that my sister and I KNEW that he hadn't stopped using. He admitted that he had never really stopped, the drugs were less frequent than before, but still were ongoing, the drinking stopped for a month but then came right back.

But today I couldn't be more proud of him. I got a call from him this morning before I left the house for a very busy day. He had called NA (narcotics anonymous) and found out when and where their meeting was tonight, and he wanted me to go with him. That made my day. The icing on the cake for me was while at the meeting he got up and spoke, he opened up and was honest about how he felt and how he didn't want to be where he is anymore, even going into how it all affects him and his other problem with schizophrenia.

I thank God for giving me that today. For having him want me to be by him as he took that big step, and that he went forward with it. Not just that, but he jumped in with both feet. He's already talking about the next meeting tomorrow night. I just hope that it sticks, like the motto of the organization though, "one day at a time".

9:43am: Whoohoo 2006 GONE! YEah! okay, big deal.
So this is 2007? Feels the same as 2006 so far, but at least I'll have the unmitigated joy of writing in the wrong year on everything for the next couple of weeks. I never thought about it before but this year I'll have the stupid James Bond theme going through my head. It's only been 1000 years since anyone lived in the year 007, and the last time it wasn't anything because well he was still a couple years away from release.

Resolutions? Hmmmm, interesting, to be honest I don't think I made any significant ones. I mean I already quit smoking and dumped the weight a few years ago, isn't that the bulk of them? Let's see then, um ah, oh, I don't know. This year I resolve to be more assertive and true to who I really am inside. YEAH like those of you who know what goes on around this place believe that one eh?

So I have some plans for this year though:
1. Submit my children's book for publishing to Nimbus (anyone can take a peek of the book in PDF format on the website now.) This is a January plan.
2. Make a significant dent in my debt load this year. All year plan.
3. Organize a committee to help me with this year's Children's Halloween Party. I figure that I'm going to need a half dozen people or more to replace Marcel. This will have to start soon because I'm already behind on this year's party now.
4. Get the website's popularity rolling. Develop new pieces for it and try to broaden it's appeal. All year plan.
5. Move my Computer repair business into part time while I work at the bank to pay bills. All year plan.
6. February will be my 33rd birthday. I would like to have a full game plan together by then.

8:35pm: What a Great Day!
Today was one of those rare days where I look back and can't help but smile. Today was the first time my youngest saw me in the full suit. She had no idea it was me and the unconditional awe she had was really great. She is a HUGE Santa fan on her own and it always is nice to see her react well to Santa, and even though as a parent you feel that unconditional love all the time, it's different when you're in the suit. I got a pic of me with my two girls.

What a great day.

11:44pm: The Problem with People --OR-- How the Grinch Stole my Present.
So tonight was the annual Christmas party for our Knights of Columbus council. So this year I got it into my stupid head to get involved in YET ANOTHER project. I know I'm never going to learn this lesson about NOT volunteering (or being Volun-told).

I figured, "Let's make this year's party fun". So I suggested a gift exchange, something so simple and easy but also something the council hasn't done in recent memory. So instead of the standard of drawing a name and buying a present for that person (which invariable ends up with someone not showing up with a gift for someone so somebody gets left out), I suggested doing a "yankee swap". This was introduced to me last year at a party thrown by one of my wife's co-workers. Here's how it works, each person brings in a gift (10 dollar max) and it's wrapped (note: this is a suprisingly important detail to mention to some people). The gifts are placed in the designated spot, and then later on everyone draws a number, with the number of papers to be drawn equals the number of gifts. So far it makes sense right? Right, simple... Then #1 goes up and picks out a gift from under the tree and unwraps it. Again Still not rocket science. Everyone sees what 1 gets. Then 2 has a choice, either pick something from under the tree and unwrap it OR take what number 1 got and send them back to the tree for something different. So the best position to be in the last person because you have a choice between all of the unwrapped stuff or the one thing left under the tree. Fun and merriment ensues.

Problem One: Not everyone wishes to participate (read as HUGE STICK IN THE MUD).
Solution (obvious): Make it perfectly clear from the start that if you DID NOT bring a gift you DO NOT take a number.

Problem Two: People who decide to take a number and claim they brought in a gift when they didn't.
Solution: I end up without a gift as I'm sort of running things for that portion of the night.

Personally I had a blast watching some of these old geezers and geezettes stealing presents from each other, but it still would have been nicer if everyone followed the same rules. I think what might have happened was that a couple brought in ONE gift but each of them took a number. Simple paying attention would show that wasn't right though wouldn't it?

Had a blast though in the end. Next year I'm thinking of talking to a few of the younger guys about coming up with a few GAG gifts. Balance out the less inspired "box of chocolates" lame gifts. I think a practical Joker Kit with items from the dollar store would be a riot. Things like the woopy cushion and squirting pens and stuff would be a real hoot. And probably stolen frequently.
11:43pm: Karaoke Idol Going Nuts
Holy Ce-rap. The voting is nuts. Spago gets the lead, then Violet, then Spago then Phil then Violet, then Phil....there's more votes on the site this week than probably all the other weeks combined. Keep it up. If you havn't been following. Check out the site FuzzWuzzle.com and click on Karaoke Idol. Vote and vote often.

14th December 2006

8:42pm: Pier 6 Brawl on Karaoke Idol
On the FuzzWuzzle Karaoke Idol things are heating up. There hasn't been this much activity in the voting in one week yet. It's actually kind of neat to see the top spot change hands 10 times in a day. Spago says: "It's Like a Nascar race." But I think she's nuts.

Go check it out and vote. I think that there are some people out there that are voting for themselves a lot, so get in there and even out the sides a bit.

Cheers

Chris

PS- just FYI, people get paid by number of clicks on google ads, just thought you may want to know that. Ahem.

11th December 2006

1:16am: I'll Be glad when this year gets done.
Okay so here's some of the updates for those following current events in the miserable mess that is my continuing life.

1. Let's start with a positive note, had a 3rd interview with ScotiaBank and they said I would find out in 2-3 weeks if I had a job with them or not. So that's good, what's better is the NEXT DAY they called me (less than 24 hours after the interview) to offer me the job. So as of Jan 18th, I'm proud to be a banker.

2. Christmas tree went up today (you think that's a bit early? Really? Hmm, it's not coming down until like Jan 9th. Not my call though)

--Now into the shit--

3. My uncle was involved in a serious accident last night. It was on the Herald's website today and in the paper today. He apparently crossed the median and smashed into a couple of oncoming cars. 3 people taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries (including 1 pregnant woman). My uncle however is in the ICU, and things aren't looking overly optimistic. His pelvis is crushed, massive internal injuries and numerous breaks, his liver was punctured and he can't breath on his own. He has not been conscious since the accident but they're (the doctors) are mostly worried about the massive amount of trauma his head has sustained. It currently sounds like he may not see 2007. Now, don't think I feel less sympathy for those other people, just I don't know them. The paper showed the car, I'm surprised that he was in as good a shape as he is.

4. Due to the events surrounding my uncle I have been in a rather foul mood, and have been dwelling on how crappy this year has been. I really lost a lot of people this year and it'll be nice when it stops.
Just doing a quicklist of people that have passed away this year that were actually close to me:
i) My Grandfather
ii) My good friend Marcel
iii) My Cousin Paul (older man that was always very kind to kids, nice guy)
iv) A friend/client Ed (was a POW in WWII, got to write his story for him)
v) A dear friend of the family and a real close friend of my parents Earl.

and that's without having to put any effort in thinking about it. Plus I started the year worrying that I was going to lose my father as he started off the new year in the hospital. Then a second time a few months ago. Plus the almost daily worry about his general health.

My grandmother gave us quite a scare a few months back and she was in the hospital and it was unsure if she was going to pull through. Thankfully she did, but she's 92 yrs old now.

Now I have the concerns about my Uncle and that we will likely have to face another ending soon. 2006 sucks bigtime. If there is ever a highlight reel made of my life, this year should be skipped entirely.

All this on top of the "oh so joyful" daily life I have here at home. Which most of you are aware of who have set foot in my house. I can't believe I'm still vertical and above the dirt myself. Still there's about 3 weeks left to this GD year, so at least the end is in site.

Take care of yourselves. I don't want to put you on my 2006 list too.
